Support of Family and Friends
This post isn’t about the physical aspect of cf but more about the emotional impact on the family. When Wyatt was diagnosed with cf at just a couple weeks old, our lives took a complete turn. It was definitely one of the top hardest moments of my life. We went from having a healthy baby to facing the challenge of having a baby with a chronic illness that doesn’t go away. I had a period of time that I compare to grieving. Although Wyatt was alive, I had to grieve the loss of the life we expected for Wyatt.
When you read about cf the first thing you read is that it’s a fatal genetic disease. But we don’t live with that attitude. Medical advances happen every single day and I firmly believe that Wyatt will live a long and full life. Wyatt does not have an expiry date and we won’t let Cf dictate his capabilities and what he can make of his life. A huge part of being able to have a more positive outlook is the support of our friends and family.
Every year since Wyatt was diagnosed we have participated in the walk to make cf history. Each year we are more and more overwhelmed at the support we receive. Being able to see our team continue to grow and gather with us to celebrate Wyatt and help support his future and the future of others with cf is beyond humbling.
I often get asked about the impact of Wyatt having cf on Lucas and Oliviah and we honestly couldn’t be more proud of how supportive they both are. Luke is a champion fundraiser. Between doing a yearly lemonade stand, collecting donation boxes with me, and raising awareness about cf at school, he is Wyatt’s biggest supporter. Oliviah is always there at Wyatt’s checkups to hold his hand or rub his back when he needs comfort (and give the dr a dirty look if he makes Wyatt cry)and is right by his side when he does his therapy.
They are the best siblings we could ask for.
Thank you so much to all our friends and family who have been on this journey with us. Whether you’ve been along for the ride since day one, or are just joining us now we appreciate every last one of you and we know that this journey would be so much more difficult without you 💕💕 every single post share, comment, Fundraiser, donation, etc. is so appreciated.
