Volunteering and Fundraising
When Wyatt was first diagnosed with CF I felt completely helpless and knew that I couldn’t change the fact that he has this disease. It is one of the worst feelings to know that your child is going to have a struggle with his health throughout his whole life. I personally felt guilty and as though I was to blame for him having this disease as it is a genetic condition that I did not know I carried the gene for (I realize this is silly logic).
I did not get involved with CF Canada right away but once we came to terms with Wyatt’s diagnosis I decided to get involved and it has been one of the best decisions for my mental health.
I have volunteered at numerous events, planning events, and speaking at various places about our journey with CF. I also have recently become an advocate. It gives me a sense of purpose and makes me feel like I am making a difference. I want to know that I’ve had a role in changing the lives of people with CF.
I volunteer not only for Wyatt but for everyone else who currently has this disease, the people who will be born with CF in the future, as well as the people with CF who have left us far too soon.
I also think it is important for everyone to know where the funds go when you donate to us. All fundraising for our team goes to CF Canada which is a not-for-profit corporation that is committed to finding a cure for CF. All money raised goes towards research for new medications and therapies, care for people with cf, advocacy efforts to help get life-improving drug coverage for Canadians, among many other things.
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to us, volunteered their time, attended events, shared posts, etc. Your efforts help to improve the lives of all people with CF and to bring us one step closer to a cure!
